MTA - A History . . .
Phil Morton- Company Director.
Three years on from the initial idea of Music Theatre Academy the dream is still the same.
Education of Music Theatre has become big business recently, but in my opinion the soul to what is being taught is forgotten in the quest for greater numbers. Lets face it, Musicals, especially amateur ones do not make money!!! But giving a child the opportunity to take part in a show, even if the role is on stage or off stage, builds a sense of community and confidence that nothing else can do. So I set about making MTA an affordable enterprise for parents and students with the added bonus of support from the industry. There is nothing that directors, producers, sound engineers, lighting and house technicians would like more than an educated cast for any show. They would love a cast that understood their role, had an appreciation for Music Theatre and a DESIRE to better themselves by being aware of their weakness yet remain CONFIDENT that they can overcome them. This, in essence is the MTA dream.
So a company that had no time for Prima Donnas, a no nonsense approach to understanding Music Theatre. A specialist team of tutors who ONLY teach their specialism in workshop based tutorials rather than attempting to teach everything and a cheap rehearsal venue so costs are low enough to be open to al,l yet performances are held in proper Theatres in and around London.
The journey continues here . . .
